Member of Technical Staff, Backend

You will be responsible for deploying Conway in the largest companies in the world. You will work as a generalist across the backend — pushing Conway's performance, reliability, and speed.
Sample projects include:
- • Create an OLAP system that processes terabytes of data per second
- • Build the point-in-time event store that guarantees a model never sees data from the future
- • Collaborate with research teams to unlock new features, improve system efficiency, and accelerate training cycles
Requirements:
- • Experience in at least one fast moving startup
- • Strong fundamentals in OS, databases, compilers, networks, and data intensive systems, particularly: (1) knowledge of databases, storage systems, and how architecture choices impact performance at scale, and (2) familiarity with cloud infrastructure, microservices architectures, and both synchronous and asynchronous processing
- • Proficiency in Python, Go, or Rust
- • You have a natural tendency to embed new tools, including AI, into your workflow thoughtfully — you "offload your typing, not your thinking"
Nice to haves:
- • 2+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems with high demands on performance, reliability, and observability
- • Experience with event pipelines, stream processing, or feature systems where correctness at a point in time matters
